Affordable Housing Crisis The affordable housing crisis in Rhode Island is growing. That's demonstrated in two new reports. Use of emergency homeless shelters in Rhode Island is again at a new all time high. A report prepared for the Rhode Island Emergency Food and Shelter Board shows shelter use was up 2% in the past fiscal year. That's the fourth annual increase in a row. Bob Seay discussed the report with Shelter Board Chairman David McCreadie. The housing crisis in Rhode Island threatens the entire state's well being. That's one conclusion in another new report. The report from Housing Works Rhode Island shows that most families in this state can afford to buy homes in only three communities in this state.
