Questions about the Site
What browser do you recommend for viewing WRNI's website?
When running an older browser (e.g. Netscape 3.0), some of the functionality WRNI's webpages will not be available to you. We recommend that you use Netscape or Internet Explorer version 4.0 or later. To download a browser that is capable of running the WRNI website, we recommend the latest versions of either Netscape or Internet Explorer.
I clicked on a link, but I got a different page that said "The Page Cannot Be Found". What does this mean?
This error, commonly called a "404 Error", means that the webpage you are trying to access cannot be found. The most common cause for this is a misnamed link. If you followed a link and received this error, please report this problem with the time, date and your name to webmaster@WRNI.bu.edu.
When pledging online, how do I know my credit card number and other information is safe?
WRNI currently uses 40-bit encryption and Secure Socket Layers to protect the sensitive and personal information that is required for an online pledge. What this means is that when your computer is about to send your credit card number, the information is scrambled so it cannot be read. When it reaches our computers, it is unscrambled so we can read it and charge your account.
But can't someone ELSE besides WRNI "unscramble" my information and steal my information?
Although possible, this scenario is quite improbable. How improbable? Well, in 1995 it took a French Graduate student 7 days to crack a single 40-bit encrypted file. Although 7 days is not that long, this feat also required 112 Pentium computers each processing millions of keys per hour.
