Reasons to Give

The Independence Campaign

Since its inception in 1998, WRNI was controlled and subsidized by WBUR in Boston. That's no longer the case.  WRNI is now an independent operation.  That gives us new opportunities to create programs, news reports and features that focus on topics that matter to Rhode Island.  Independence also means that Rhode Island, not Boston, is responsible for funding this station.  Please give now in support of our only independent NPR News Station.

Listeners and supporters of WRNI talk about why Rhode Islanders like you support this station as an indispensable public media for The Ocean State.

WRNI’s independence is thanks to the hard work and generosity of many leaders in Rhode Island.  We've received critical support from the Rhode Island Foundation, the Robertson Foundation, and many individuals.  But the future of this station rests on gifts of $60, $120, and a dollar a day from listeners like you.  Federal funding is just 3% of our budget. Your individual gift... what fits your budget... is what keeps independent Rhode Island Public Radio on the air on WRNI 1290 AM Providence & 102.7 FM in Southern Rhode Island.

And thank you!
