Interim Membership Director

Rhode Island Public Radio is looking for an energetic, creative, versatile and seasoned individual to serve as Interim Membership Director. The Interim Membership Director is responsible for the planning and implementation of an annual fundraising campaign that includes but is not limited to on-air pledge drives, direct mail campaigns, and online giving. In addition, the director plans and implements membership events and participates in the advertising and promotion of all membership activities. Working with others in the organization and contracted firms, the Interim Membership Director handles fund-raising directed toward membership growth for individual gifts of $5-$999, and attaining annual revenue goals of $730,000.

Job Duties include:

Plan and implement all on-air pledge drives and direct mail fundraising campaigns.
- On-air producer for pledge drives
- Coordinate staffing of pledge drive duties
- Coordinate volunteers for pledge drive phone bank & other volunteer opportunities
- Edit pledge page on the website
- Work with vendors for pledge drive premiums
- Edit direct mail copy
- Work with printers for direct mail
- Record and edit listener testimonials and other on-air elements for pledge drives
- Coordinate and perform data entry for all pledge drive commitments and gifts from listeners

Point of contact for listener comments and service.
- Discuss programming issues with listeners
- Handle membership issues by phone, mail, or email

Manage the donor database
- Accurate data entry of all membership donations
- Timely delivery of solicitation and acknowledgement letters
- Analysis of donation data

Community events
- Assist other staff members in planning & implementing community events

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience and a background in public radio, fundraising, event planning, or other related field. Experience with radio operations and equipment are a plus.

Requirements:
• Working knowledge of The Raisers Edge – proven, extensive experience with data entry, records upkeep, importing, querying, batching, mailing and reporting from The Raisers Edge
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
• Working knowledge of the web as a fundraising tool
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Detail-orientation
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience in budgeting and statistical analysis

This is a full-time, temporary position (replacement for maternity leave). Expected start date of April 1, 2010, end date around the end of July. Some early morning, evening, and weekend hours required. Salary range is equivalent to $32,000 - $35,000 per year.

Internships

Internships are available in news writing and in audio production.   News interns assist in gathering and writing items for broadcast. Audio production interns assist in preparing audio promos for broadcast.  Both internships provide a great deal of hands-on experience in the operations of a public radio station.
